Partnership with Tsinghua University

Widely regarded as one of the best business schools in China, The School of Economics and Management (SEM) at the prestigious Tsinghua University, was founded in 1986 by Zhu Rongji (later China's Premier) to champion the modern management practices in China.

The Tsinghua SEM is helping the Chinese economy progress internationally. As the Chinese economy has become more integrated with the world economy, Tsinghua SEM’s research and teaching has expanded and in 2006 Tsinghua SEM and INSEAD partnered to form the TIEMBA or the Tsinghua INSEAD Executive MBA. This is the premier English language EMBA in mainland China and the only joint EMBA in East Asia taught on full local campuses.

The TIEMBA which is modelled on INSEAD's highly regarded Global EMBA (GEMBA) complements its sister programme in terms of class make up and diversity. The joint programme is offered on Tsinghua's Beijing campus and INSEAD's Singapore campus, with both programmes spending roughly one quarter of the residential modules together. They take their electives jointly together in Singapore in July.

The TIEMBA is a conscious effort by Tsinghua SEM and INSEAD to forge an international programme for Asia’s business community. The launch of the programme was an important step for INSEAD's campus in Singapore because it represented our first degree programme expansion from this hub.

Tsinghua’s unique expertise, cultural heritage and place in Chinese society complements INSEAD’s long-held expertise in international management. A second MOU (memorandum of understanding) was signed in October 2008, strengthening the partnership further by calling for faculty exchanges, research cooperation and more joint programmes in executive education.
